  • The ADX will be the smallest crossover in Acura’s lineup, sitting below the RDX.
  • It will be available with a gasoline powertrain, although an EV is deemed possible for the future.
  • Acura also confirmed it is working on an electric version of the three-row MDX.

Acura reportedly confirmed the name of its upcoming baby crossover at a dealer meeting last week. The subcompact Acura ADX is expected to debut in 2024 with a combustion engine, expanding the automaker’s crossover lineup below the compact RDX, the mid-size MDX, and the fully electric ZDX.

The new gas-powered crossover was first announced in January 2024, although Acura didn’t give away its name at the time. While information remains scarce, it could share its underpinnings with the Honda HR-V.

Brian Benstock, general manager of Paragon Honda / Acura in New York City, and chairman of the Acura National Dealer Advisory Board, told Automotive News: “It’s about time. It’s a great segment, and we think it’s a growing segment. It’ll really add to our ability to add significant volume to the brand.”

While the company confirmed the name and the market positioning of the ADX, they didn’t comment on the possibility of an electric powertrain option. However, Benstock believes that a zero-emission derivative will become available at some point in the future: “They are keeping their cards close to their chest when it comes to that, but everything’s going to turn into an EV eventually. And we’re looking forward to that.”

Besides the baby crossover, Acura also announced it’s working on a fully electric version of the three-row MDX crossover. Speaking about the upcoming model, Benstock said: “They don’t want to hurt the sales of the current vehicle. But in the future we will see a battery-electric MDX”.

The current fourth generation of the V6-powered MDX just received a mid-lifecycle update for the 2025 MY. The mid-size crossover benefited from mild exterior tweaks, a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment with Google built-in, a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, and improved ADAS.

Acura is set to play an important role in achieving Honda’s target of selling 800,000 electric vehicles in North America by 2030, described as “the tip of the spear”. Its first EV – the Acura ZDX – arrives in US dealerships this spring, with a starting price of $64,500.
